OrgOS, moving and floating city

Not much going on, some interesting findings on database
structures and I will be moving to Malmö in a week.

We have had no replies from the “Floating City” movement,
I will try more directly at some later time.

At the moment everyone involved with Floathaven
are seriously strapped for cash (as in “how to survive?”)

so in the meantime I will focus on getting a job
and the organization framework – which will kick ass.

Sorry for the short update blog, life is life.

Organization framework blog 1

I know this may be boring to those looking for pretty pictures of seasteading,

but I see the politics of such an undertaking as more vital than anything else.

As such as you may know I am now working on my

bachelors project which will be all about organizations.

New site overhaul

While our site has a low bounce rate (means people usually stay rather than run for hills)
it is not entirely clear what we are doing to newcomers.

With Obama passing the NDAA and the EU suffering general
political incompetence and growing corruption it is clear seasteading
is more needed than ever.

To succeed we need help and
volunteers, we need to draw people in.

Material creep, Floating City and the discstead

So we are starting to agree somewhat on a

discstead design and since building a test boat

would take almost as much effort as a real

floating island we are considering moving right

ahead. Yes that is right, this movement needs

action and we are ready.

The many technocratic ideologies

I have briefly mentioned before that ours is a specific brand of technocracy; namely positivist.

Just like theologies of Islam and Christianity both use

prayer, rituals and strict moral codes while disagreeing on goals

many types of technocracy exist with similar ideas and very different goals.

Well what are the others then and is this important?

EU debt and technocratic financial policy

A lot of numbers with “billion” after them being thrown around these days, often

followed by the words “EU”, “debt” or “crisis”.

Debt and contagion have become magic words today, words that can be used to justify

any expenditure or political choice; much like the word “terrorism”

has been used to justify a thing or two.

As scientists at heart lets look at simple stuff first, lets look at “loan” and “investment”.

Work this week – Blog from Nov 27

So the college semester end is upon us (me really) so todays blog

will be some short updates on what I have been doing.

House idea
One of the ideas we are working with for a future project is

naturally a floating house. As such I have been

brainstorming ways to build a house on

a simple discstead in a cheap, but satisfying way.

Mooring calculations – Blog from Dec 1

I have thought more about this and I think the anchoring

should be our priority number one, if the island sinks we can fix it

or scrap it, but if it drifts off we could suddenly get a

huge fine or something AND loose a maybe otherwise functioning island.

Even our first attempt at some floating modules failed due to

the mooring and not their horrible quality.

Culture and moral values in a technocracy – part 1

Over the course of our political debates on this site questions about

culture have cropped up, so I thought the time had come to deal with this subject.

It quickly occurred to me just how massive and all encompassing this question

really is -the word “culture” could cover everything from movies, to sexuality or religion.
This is why this will only be part 1 of perhaps two blogs on culture in TEL.

This was also a personal challenge for me;

if science and the positivist method could be applied to optimize cultural values, it could be applied to anything.
